The Advanced Namkha Calculator will be based on the final edition of “Namkha” book by C.N.Norbu. The book provided refined and full calculation methods for all four types of Namkhas for the first time.

We’re the couple behind the Namkha Encyclopedia project 🙂
I’m a Namkha expert and former architectural technician. My husband, Simon, is a former software engineer at a major startup and also worked as a web designer.
Together, we combine our expertise and technical background to bring the Advanced Namkha Calculator to life.
We’re also joined by fellow IT enthusiasts who are helping us with the development.
◈ Why do we need the Advanced Namkha Calculator?
⛔️ https://namkha.info/en/ doesn’t calculate the most effective and astrologically important Namkhas – for Tibetan hour, day and month of birth.
Also it doesn’t render calculation charts for female persons 👩🦰 .
Whereas everyone can and need to benefit from most powerful and Namkhas and use complete software.
⚠️ There are no analogues to the upcoming Advanced Namkha Calculator at this moment.
In the end of 2022 the calculation program Namkha.info became insufficient and does not include complete calculation methods. Also it doesn’t render female charts – so many female practitioners have wrong Namkhas calculated with this software.
⟐ Personal story of transformation
behind the Advanced Namkha Calculator
The reason to create this program is my recovery from a very difficult condition. I could reach it only getting myself all 4 types of personal Namkhas. The default option of having just one Namkha calculated with https://namkha.info/en/ was extremely insufficient. That is why I studied the difficult calculation methods for more accurate and powerful Namkhas when the latest edition of the Namkha book was published and did my own deep research.
◈ My Expertise behind developing
the advanced Namkha Calculator
I spent 4 years vacuuming every bit of information about Namkhas in Chogyal Namkhai Norbu texts. I reached every Tibetan astrologist in access to understand how to calculate every other – more impactful Namkha types – properly. I studied multiple books on Tibetan Astrology comparing different methods and studying them in depth.
I also communicated directly with The Shang Shung Institute – as a member of their research team on the Namkha method.
I “sniffed” any information that might be useful – even when watching historical Chinese TV dramas! (Since Tibetan Lunar Calendar has a lot in common with Chinese Lunar Calendar 🙂 )
This is why and for what purpose I’m on the way to provide this initiative for the community and the broader audience. This program will change many lives. And I have both required expertise and reason to overcome all problems on the way to release it, which appear in abundance.
⟐ Why do we need the Advanced Namkha Calculator
if we have Namkha.Info?
This is the precious initiative from Russian practitioners and developers – I made my first Namkha with this program!
But there are no analogues to the Advanced Namkha Calculator at this moment.

◈ Where and how it's started?
We’ve started development in 2022 – and continue development right now.
The development, as it turned out, takes a lot, a lot and a lot of time – much more that we expected initially. This is a big harmonizing project related to Dharma so we experience obstacles constantly – but we gradually find the ways to overcome them.
E.g. we’ve started developing the program in Russia – me and my husband Simon Weiss, a former software engineer. We began the development right after Russia started the war, so we had our hard time leaving the country and reaching safe territory.
Not to mention that the very type of the task is very specific and finding specialists who can advise us is a separate quest. But we’re moving forward – every 3-4 months we have something to show – a little or more considerable progress.

⟐ What is the current status of development?
We’ve reached a major milestone. Our exploration has borne fruit, and now we know all the calculation methods. The issue with calculating Tibetan days and nights in high latitudes has been solved, and we’re ready to enter the main stage of development.

July was quite hectic, and we had an emergency situation. However, there’s a progress – here is what happened in a meantime:
❖ 1. With pulling some strings (our deepest thanks to Migmar Tsering and Gakyil of Merigar East!) – we managed to buy a book containing the explanations on calculations for Tibetan hour, Tibetan day and Tibetan month – “Jung-We Kyil-Khor. The Mandala of astrological elements“. It can be bought only in a physical copy, and there is no opportunity to buy it online. We could only find a particular person to buy and send it to us. With all delays and obstacles we received it in June. It covered a part of our questions.
❖ 2. We contacted https://tibetastromed.ru/, reached Alexander Hosmo and received his consultation on how to navigate Tibetan hours and days during Polar day and Polar night.

We didn’t find an astronomer, but we found an astrologer who consulted us on questions we had.
The part of the code responsible for defining any Tibetan year of birth is done – now we have converter from any Western date to correspondent Tibetan year of birth.
But we have new issue – one of the toughest in the development. We need to define how to calculate Tibetan day and Tibetan nights in high latitudes, where there are long polar nights and polar days. Somewhere in Svalbard there’s no usual cycles of sunsets and sunrises for long periods of time, and these cycles are crucial for calculating new types of Namkhas. We need to do some approximation that will allow to get calculations for people born is high latitudes.
The astrologer recommended us to research sources related to Vedic Astrology, so this is what we’re going to do in nearest future.

One more software engineer joined our team and now advises us how to continue the development. In total there are 3 developers in our team now – we finally have enough of specialists to enter the main stage of development.
Right now Namkha Encyclopedia experiences crisis – but we plan to be fully operational in February 2025.
Our next step is to provide calculation for Year Namkhas – with consideration of place of birth and gender. We’ll do it for Northern hemisphere first – and then develop it for Southern hemisphere as well.
The calculation of Year Namkhas – for the first time with consideration of the gender – is done. ⚠️ Namkha.info doesn’t consider the gender of a person and many of you have Namkhas for the wrong gender. The Advanced Namkha Calculator solves this issue.
But we have other issues to solve. Our code doesn’t work for Southern hemisphere at the moment 🙁
- The program provides maximum accuracy and considers your place of birth. Since the Losar begins everywhere in the world in its own time due to different time zones, 2 hours difference in the Losar day may mean that you were born in previous Tibetan year – or already born in new one. Which affects your astrological condition directly.
- The code of the program works perfectly for Northern hemisphere, and doesn’t work for Southern hemisphere at all. We don’t know why – and in February 2025 the latest we will return to this issue. If you know how to help – please contact us.

⟐ Translation to other languages
Translating to other languages would complicate development immensely. We’d be happy to create the program in other languages as well, but in this case, we would never be able to release it.
